Have you heard of Compassion UK?
Compassion is an international organisation that sponsors children who are poverty stricken and who are from a variety of Religious backgrounds. The children are educated, have health checks, receive food daily, and attend a 'church based centre' where every child in a compassion programme hears the good news about Jesus.By helping one child in a family the burden of feeding that child is lifted from the rest of the family - so that means more for the rest to share. It also means the child will bring good health care back to the home for all the family to share. The child, receiving any gifts, eagerly shares those gifts with the family, especially the 'Good News' about Jesus.
Each Centre is CHURCH BASED. (This in turn has meant some churches increasing their congregations from 50 or so members at the start of its involvement with Compassion, to 300 after a while as the people see Christ at work in their community). The Mottos of Compassion are 'Christ Centred, Child Focused, and Church Based', and "One child at a time".
Compassion works in many countries. South America - Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil and Bolivia. Also Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua. Haiti and Dominican Republic. African Countries - Burkina Faso, Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda. Also India and Bangladesh, Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand.
Christ Church Woodley are adopting Compassion UK for their Church Project in 2008. This will involve them in fundraising and praying for the work as well as receiving news direct from the children.
The Leadership Development Programme supports those children who have the potential for University but their individual sponsors cannot afford to pay. To find out more about this Visit the Compassion UK Website.
