Have you heard about Readifood?

ReadiFood, Reading’s Food Bank, are in need of increasing our food collections to meet the ever increasing demand for Emergency Food Parcels. If your congregation already collect for us, could you please put out an appeal for increased donations, especially right now for tinned ham and corned beef, tinned vegetables such as potatoes, carrots and peas.

If your congregation doesn’t yet collect for us, those that do ask members to bring along a tin or packet of food once a week, fortnight or month and place in a box, which we will supply and collect regularly.  Some congregations place the box at the front of the church so that giving food becomes part of the act of worship alongside giving money during the Sunday meeting.

ReadiFoodis a simple and very practical means of your congregation answering the question “How can we help the poor of Reading”.  We currently deliver around 30 parcels per week to individuals and families referred to us by Social Services and other agencies such as Hamble Court, Refugee Support, Communicare, Ability and RAHAB. But the true demand is much higher since we have to have a very strict and limiting criteria in order to ration our limited resources.

Readifood Foodbankis run by FAITH Christian Group who have been delivering parcels to people in need in Reading for the best part of 20 years. For more information or to arrange a visit to the Foodbank, talk to us about “Fareshare”, the “Trussell Trust” or any aspect of Food Banks please ring Malcolm on 0793 684 5300 or email him of malc@fcg.org.uk.
