Creating a Safer Space - Training

The Reading and Silchester Methodist Circuit recognises the importance of safeguarding all people in the Church community and will be holding a series of safeguarding training events during 2011 to enable individuals to deal confidently and appropriately in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults in the Church context.

During the summer  Connexion replaced Module A Safeguarding Training with a new version of this course, "Creating a Safer Space Foundation Module".  If you have attended Module A you DO NOT need to attend the new course.

Those who must attend either training include:

  • Presbyters and Deacons – all with pastoral charge or responsibility
  • Lay employees & Volunteer workers with pastoral responsibility
  • Pastoral Visitors
  • Pre-ordination (students and probationers)
  • Anyone working in activities targeted at adults who are vulnerable
  • Children’s workers (paid or voluntary)
  • Youth Workers (paid or voluntary)
  • Helpers in children’s and youth work
  • Children’s holiday clubs
  • JuniorChurchteachers/ leaders/ assistants
  • Uniformed organisations etc.
  • Choir, Music group leaders & key Church musicians (where children are involved)
  • Drama group leaders
  • Parents/ Carer and Toddler leaders
  • Foundation Students/ equivalent (now EDEV)
  • Any other people who work with children
  • Evangelism/Mission enablers
  • Church/Circuit Stewards
  • Local Preachers (& those in training)
  • Worship Leaders
  • Church and Circuit Safeguarding Representatives
  • District Safeguarding Reps/Co-ordinators
  • District Policy Committee/ District Council Members
  • Complaints and Discipline (panel members) and Mediators

Your church safeguarding co-ordinator will pass on details of those who will be required to attend the training to the Circuit Office. Once an individual has confirmed that they wish to attend a specific training event, confirmation of dates and times will be provided by you church safeguarding co-ordinator.

Training events will be held in each of the four sections (see Safeguarding Training Dates) and will last for about two and a half hours.
