Stop the Traffik
Did you sign a card to support the campaign against Human Trafficking?A petition containing 1.5 million signatures was presented to the United Nations at a conference in Vienna.
As a direct result of this Revd Steve Chalke, chair of Stop the Traffik global coalition and founder of the charity Oasis, has been appointed as a UN special advisor with responsibility for fighting against people trafficking.
The offerings at Spring Harvest 2007 raised 923 thousand pounds which has been divided between eleven projects, for example
- Oasis in India is working with the police and other agencies to protect the vulnerable and support victims
- A home in Central Europe has been purchased so care is secured for vulnerable young people
- Children in Sri Lanka are becoming safer thanks to the Salvation Army teaching on Stranger Danger
- Land in the Philippines has been purchased and a home planned where rescued girls can receive security and support
